Presentation Information

The following information is available:

Oral Presenters

Timing

  • 20 minutes including questions
    • Chairs will provide a 5 minute warning
    • Chairs will stop presenters/questions after 20 minutes

Information for New Presenters

  • 15 to 20 slides (maximum)
  • Time your presentation to take around 17 minutes
  • Ensure your slides are readable:
    • Limit the amount of text
    • Ensure all fonts are large enough
    • Watch colour choices (e.g. avoid light yellow on a white background)

Presentation Equipment

  • It is recommended to use the PC provided.
    • The following software will be available:
      • Microsoft PowerPoint 2007
      • Adobe Acrobat Reader version 9
      • Microsoft Vista OS
    • Transferring presentations via CD is preferable than using memory sticks (Conferences are experiencing virus problems due to infected memory sticks even with PCs using up-to-date virus programs)
  • Connection available for your own portable PC, if needed
  • Projector
  • Microphone
  • If you have any special requirements please contact the Local Chair

Pre-Presentation

  • During the break prior to your session, ensure you have
    • Reported to the chair(s)
    • Prepare your presentation, either:
      • Upload your presentation onto the PC provided (using a CD or USB memory stick)
      • Test that your own portable PC works on the system

Chairs

Timing

  • Ensure your session runs strictly on schedule
    • Arrive early
    • Ensure all presentations preloaded before the session begins
    • Maximum 20 minutes per presentation. Give a 5 minute remaining warning
    • Missing Presenter
      • Keep to the schedule, do not re-arrange slots, keep the unfilled slot empty

Equipment

  • Microphone available for yourself/questions
  • Technical problems can be addressed to:
    • Technical support (4th floor reception)
    • Any of the CEC helpers, including our own technical help

Poster Presenters

Presentation equipment

  • Poster boards: 841mm by 1189mm (WidthxHeight)
  • Poster pins available
  • Velcro surface on boards

Poster Format

  • A0 format (841mm × 1189mm)
  • A print out of your paper is NOT a poster

Setting up your Poster

  • All posters located in Nova Europa
  • Your paper number will be allocated to a particular board
  • Your poster must be hung prior to the start of your session
  • You are encouraged to hang your poster for a half day
    • Morning sessions
      • Hang any time prior to session start
      • Remove by lunch
    • Afternoon sessions
      • Hang any time prior to session start and after start of lunch
      • Remove by end of day
    • Evening session
      • Hang any time during the day
      • Remove at end of session

Creating a Poster (For New Presenters)

  • Please ensure readability, coverage and clarity
  • Readability
    • Readable from approximately 1.5m away
  • Coverage
    • Are the major findings obvious?
    • Is there sufficient detail to enable the reader to ask informed questions?
    • Main elements: title, author(s) and abstract, introduction, method, subjects, procedure, results, and conclusions
  • Clarity
    • Keep it simple
    • Be selective
    • Ensure order of information is obvious
